The people of Thailand have developed their own unique style of massage. It is said to have been brought with them as their ancestors traveled through southern China and Burma (Myanmar) before settling in the country now known as Thailand.  The basic movements are believed to have been developed predominantly from those introduced more than 2500 years ago by a doctor from Northern India by name of Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, a contemporary of Buddha and personal doctor of the Magadha King Bimbisara. Kumar Bhacca is known to have been a friend of Buddha and a doctor for the Buddhist monks. He is mentioned in the Pali Kanon, the old texts of Buddhism of the Southern school of Theravada (found today mainly in Sri Lanka, Burma/Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand). Thai massage has since incorporated many influences from other ancient traditions such as Chinese acupressure, chi, Buddhist tradition and Ayruvedic yoga.

This ancient art meditatively blends gentle rocking and rhythmic pressure on reflex points, together with yoga-like stretches to deeply relax and fluidly revitalize muscles, joints
& ligaments. When expertly practiced it relieves tension, soothes tired muscles, increases flexibility, re-energises and promotes well-being through releasing blockages in the mind-body energy flow continuum.

Unparalleled in its ability to open the body and extend range of motion, clients call sessions "awesome", "euphoric", "the lazy person's yoga" which "lets me walk on clouds."

There are many Traditional Thai Massage parlours available in BangPli charging 100-200 Baht/hour.
